“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” — Oprah Winfrey
Every now and again, while I am waiting for the train….I think to myself, have I been the best friend I can be to those I am close to. Now, no one is perfect, but sometimes I am dissapointed with the realization that maybe I am sometimes selfish and wrapped up in my own life, chaos, the rat race, etc. But at the same time, I have found that it’s very hard to find friends who hold these virtues listed below dear to their heart. It is really quite a shame though, because anyone who has had a true friend, understands how fulfilling it can be. To know that you are never really alone because there is someone out there who truly knows your essense, your nature, and they love you unconditionally and would do pretty much anything for you without judgement is really quite a treasure. You could call them anytime a day, months have gone by, and it would seem as though no time has passed between you. If you are lucky enough to have made a friend like this, treasure it and i can assure you, that the older you get, the more you will appreciate it.
So, I think it’s good to look at a list every now and again and just remind yourself of the noble values a good friend does indeed have.1. Be Real 2. Be Honest 3. Be Loyal 4. Be Respectful 5. Share 6. Watch out for your friend 7. Pitch in for friends during times of crisis 8. Give thoughtful advice 9. Listen 10. Step back and give your friend space 11. Don’t be selfish 12. Be forgiving 13. Always treat a friend the way you would like to be treated 14. Seek to deepen your friendship over time 15.
