“I was full of a hot, powerful sadness and would have loved to burst into the comfort of tears, but tried hard not to, remembering something my Guru once said
— that you should never give yourself a chance to fall apart because, when you do, it becomes a tendency and it happens over and over again. You must practice staying strong, instead.” – Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
As I read this quote, I think…well, that is so much easier said than done but I have to admit, that I do agree. You know the conversation you have had with your friends a million times about working out,…that the more you spend away, the harder it is to go back? Well, I kind of equate the same principle here.
When we are suddenly faced with something not going the way we expected, …most of the time, we would probably have a little pity party for ourselves. Understandably, sometimes, it’s nice to just stay home and feel sorry for ourselves as we consume a few glasses of wine(not a bottle by yourself 🙂 chocolate, or fried chicken, etc.
Whatever your favorite gluttonous pleasure is, I am all about it!!! However, what I am not all about, is letting myself go so long that the trip back to a balanced mind and a fit and healthy self looks harder than staying where I am in misery. The reality is, even that concept is a delusion..who wouldn’t choose healthy over misery?? but as we probably have all realized, it is a lot harder to do the right thing than to do the wrong thing. The strength that comes from choosing and maintaining the best way, and the ability to keep ourselves from going down the “dark” path to begin with is what we are really after here.
Carrie: <about therapists> First they want you to come there two times a week, then three times a week, and eventually you’re starting every sentence with ‘my therapist says… ‘
Miranda: My therapist says that’s a very common fear.
Everyone uses different methods to find and maintain this sort of peace inside. It’s really hard to evaluate what is right for anyone these days…but I believe that if you approach the method with the best intentions, than it will benefit you. I also feel that you shouldn’t discredit your own abilities…Most of the time, we are stronger than we think. Be open to wisdom around you wherever it is being offered and surround yourself with people who support you because having the right friends around you can make a world of a difference. xo
