I was reading an old article about the artist, Marco Perego. “This former soccer star is known for his controversial and icononclastic paintings, often a fantasy that perverts images that we take for granted as innocent.” He is an Italian-born artist who had been a professional soccer player. After getting injured, he moved to Brazil to recuperate and continue to play. This was short lived, for New York had called out to him and in 2002, he made the move to realize his dream as an artist. He juggled many jobs from bussboy to waiter, to washing dishes in Spanish Harlem, where he lived. Although he came from humble beginnings, his dad is a waiter, his mom a stay at home wife, he seemed destined to be a success. His fortuitous moment came about when his sister introduced him to a friend that worked at Sotherby’s. He convinced her to objectively review his work and well, the rest is history.
I love how he described his success…
“I just believe in my dreams, the sun in the face, wind in the back, the rest take care from the destiny to dance with the stars.”
Everyone in life has challenges but only those who are ambitions will think of a bright future even in the midst of great problems. Be ambitious. Find that fighting spirit. Don’t blame the world for your shortcomings. Force yourself to have positive thoughts, develop a fighting spirit, be humbled by the struggle and be confident in your ability. VC
This is Perego’s painting shown here of Snow White.
